Max-Schmeling-Halle

Home of Live Events and Elite Sports

The Max-Schmeling-Halle is a well-known event venue in Berlin, centrally located in the Prenzlauer Berg neighborhood. Named after the German heavyweight boxing world champion Max Schmeling, the arena combines sporting tradition with modern event infrastructure and is now one of the capital’s most important venues for sports, concerts, and major live events.

History

The arena was planned in conjunction with the velodrome and the swimming and diving facilities as part of Berlin’s bid for the 2000 Olympic Games. After the International Olympic Committee selected Sydney as the host city, the construction plans for the Max-Schmeling-Halle and the Velodrom were expanded during the construction phase and designed for multifunctional use. The result was a versatile multipurpose arena that today hosts events of all kinds.

The grand opening took place on December 13, 1996, in the presence of Max Schmeling, and the first events followed in the summer of 1997.

Facts and Figures

Spanning an area of approximately 38,500 square meters, the complex includes not only the arena but also VIP areas, auxiliary halls, and various function rooms. With its spacious architecture and glass-enclosed north facade facing Falkplatz, the arena continues to shape the cityscape to this day.

As the home venue for the Füchse Berlin and the BR Volleys, the city’s sporting heart beats here regularly. At the same time, the arena offers ideal conditions for concerts, shows, TV productions, and business events. Modern technical equipment, flexible event spaces, and an experienced venue management team ensure that events can be executed professionally.

The hall’s roof is home to a large-scale solar power system with over 1,000 modules. It generates approximately 220 megawatt-hours of electricity annually, making a significant contribution to the city’s sustainable energy supply.

Today, the Max-Schmeling-Halle is synonymous with thrilling live experiences, major sporting moments, and events that move Berlin.
