Max-Schmeling-Halle

Sustainable cities and communities

SDG 11 – sustainable cities and communities is aimed at making cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.

How does Velomax contribute to the achievement of this goal?

  • A major part of the grounds is mostly used as a green space (green bridge). Such green spaces contribute to the improvement of the local microclimate and provide habitats for wild animals, insects and birds. Furthermore, the vegetation on the roof improves various building properties such as its thermal insulation and provides a thermal shield

  • Beehives have been installed in the grounds that make an additional ecological contribution

  • Solar panels on the roof of the Max-Schmeling-Halle produce electricity which is then fed into the public power grid (approx. 225Mwh p.a.

  • The Max-Schmeling-Halle is wheelchair accessible for staff and visitors

  • Its central location in the inner city ensures excellent connections to the public transport system; all staff and visitors can therefore travel to and from the Max-Schmeling-Halle using public transport. Additional carbon free travel alternatives available, for example bicycles from the hire cycle provider nextbike. Our cooperation partner has a docking station right in front of the Max-Schmeling-Halle

  • Reduction of environmental pollution through waste management
